Durant Motors Antique Automobile Museum Foundation

We Need Your Help

Durant Motors Antique Automobile Museum Foundation, is committed to the preservation and celebration of the history of William C. Durant and the automobiles associated with him. Our goal through the creation of a state of the art modern museum is to provide a captivating look into the life and experience of Durant and to honor the man who was instrumental in the early American automobile history.

The museum will trace Durant’s history from his early beginnings creating the Durant-Dort Carriage Works in Flint, Michigan, through his acquisition of Buick Motorcar Company, and the creation and CEO of General Motors and Chevrolet until his final automotive venture with Durant Motors Inc.

Upon creation of Durant Motors Inc. Durant soon created and obtained other car companies to reach everyone. Automobiles such as Star, Flint, Rugby, Mathis and Locomobile all came under the umbrella and control of Durant. After the end of these companies and the bankruptcy of Durant Motors, other car companies sprang up using assembly plants, parts and personnel from the remnants of Durant Motors. Cars such as DeVaux, Frontenac and Continental were produced. Also included are the Dort automobiles produced by J. Dallas Dort, who was Durant’s partner at Durant-Dort Carriage works, and started his own car company in Flint, Michigan. Our museum will also cover all of these models.

Our mission is to create a museum like no other in Michigan and the world that will showcase Durant, and the cars and exhibits surrounding this piece of automotive history.
