Who We Are!
Our Mission
Durant Motors Automobile Museum Foundation Inc was founded by eleven Durant enthusiasts who wanted to establish a brick and mortar museum to celebrate the rich history of William C. Durant and his automobiles.
Our passion drives us to establish a museum of the highest quality to showcase the life of William C. Durant from his beginning with the Durant-Dort Carriage works, through his acquisition and management of Buick, on to his creation of General Motors. Included is his creation of Chevrolet, later bringing it into the family of General Motors, and finally the formation of Durant Motors Inc after he struck out on his own from managing General Motors.
The museum will include automobiles, various interactive exhibits, photographs, factory items and advertising associated with Durant Motors, such as Durant, Star, Flint, Rugby, Mathis and Locomobile. Showcased in the museum will be stories and vehicles of other automobile companies too, which were spinoffs of Durant Motors after the company declared bankruptcy in 1931. Cars such as DeVaux, Frontenac and Continental will be shown along with their histories and their ties to Durant.
We the Officers and Board of Directors believe in connecting people with the past, inspiring future generations to learn about William C. Durant, his history and life as well as the automobile companies he touched.
Currently there is not a museum that sufficiently celebrates Durant’s contribution to the automobile industry. Help us make this dream to build one a reality!
Let’s build one to honor a very important person and part of early American automotive history.
Join us in preserving this legacy and fueling your love for early American automobile history.
